ANTARCTICA - DRY VALLEYS

The Dry Valleys in Antarctica have not seen rain for nearly 2 million years. They lack snow. The unique conditions in the valleys are caused by katabatic winds (from the Greek word for 'going down' These occur when cold, dense air is pulled downhill simply by the force of gravity. They can reach speeds of 200 mph.
